Ukraine

 

When it gets complicated and confusing, when you’re overwhelmed with too much information, changing daily; too many explanations, some contradictory … try putting it into some kind of context by stepping back and looking at the larger, long-term picture.

 

The United States strives for world domination, hegemony wherever possible, their main occupation for over a century, it’s what they do for a living. The United States, NATO and the European Union form The Holy Triumvirate. The Holy Triumvirate has subsidiaries, chiefly The International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Trade Organization, International Criminal Court … all help to keep in line those governments lacking the Holy Triumvirate Seal Of Approval: the IMF, WB, and WTO impose market fundamentalism, while foreign leaders who act too independent are threatened with being handed over to the ICC for heavy punishment, as the United States imposes sanctions on governments and their leaders as only the King of Sanctions can, lacking any sense of hypocrisy or irony.

 

And who threatens United States domination? Who can challenge The Holy Triumvirate’s hegemony? Only Russia and China, if they were as imperialistic as the Western powers. (No, the Soviet Union wasn’t imperialistic; that was self-defense; Eastern Europe was a highway twice used by the West to invade; tens of millions of Russians killed or wounded.)

 

Since the end of the Cold War the United States has been surrounding Russia, building one base after another, ceaselessly looking for new ones, including in Ukraine; one missile site after another, with Moscow in range; NATO has grabbed one former Soviet Republic after another. The White House, and the unquestioning American mainstream media, have assured us that such operations have nothing to do with Russia. And Russia has been told the same, much to Moscow’s continuous skepticism. “Look,” said Russian president Vladimir Putin about NATO some years ago, “is this is a military organization? Yes, it’s military. … Is it moving towards our border? It’s moving towards our border. Why?”

 

The Holy Triumvirate would love to rip Ukraine from the Moscow bosom, evict the Russian Black Sea Fleet, and establish a US military and/or NATO presence on Russia’s border. (In case you were wondering what prompted the Russian military action.) Kiev’s membership in the EU would then not be far off; after which the country could embrace the joys of neo-conservatism, receiving the benefits of the standard privatization-deregulation-austerity package and join Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain as an impoverished orphan of the family; but no price is too great to pay to for being part of glorious Europe and the West!

 

The Ukrainian insurgents and their Western-power supporters didn’t care who their Ukrainian allies were in carrying out their coup against President Viktor Yanukovych last month … thugs who set policemen on fire head to toe … all manner of extreme right-wingers, including Chechnyan Islamic militants … a deputy of the ultra-right Svoboda Party, part of the new government, who threatens to rebuild Ukraine’s nukes in three to six months. … the snipers firing on the protestors who apparently were not what they appeared to be – A bugged phone conversation between Urmas Paet, the Estonian foreign minister, and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, reveals Paet saying: “There is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers it was not Yanukovych, but it was somebody from the new coalition.” … neo-Nazi protestors in Kiev who have openly denounced Jews, hoisting a banner honoring Stepan Bandera, the infamous Ukrainian nationalist who collaborated with the German Nazis during World War II and whose militias participated in atrocities against Jews and Poles.

 

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on February 24 that Ukrainian Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman advised “Kiev’s Jews to leave the city and even the country.” Edward Dolinsky, head of an umbrella organization of Ukrainian Jews, described the situation for Ukrainian Jews as “dire” and requested Israel’s help.

 

All in all a questionable gang of allies for a dubious cause; reminiscent of the Kosovo Liberation Army thugs Washington put into power for an earlier regime change, and has kept in power since 1999.

 

The now-famous recorded phone conversation between top US State Department official Victoria Nuland and the US ambassador to the Ukraine, wherein they discuss which Ukrainians would be to Washington’s liking in a new government, and which not, is an example of this regime-change mentality. Nuland’s choice, Arseniy Yatseniuk, emerged as interim prime minister.

 

The National Endowment for Democracy, an agency created by the Reagan administration in 1983 to promote political action and psychological warfare against states not in love with US foreign policy, is Washington’s foremost non-military tool for effecting regime change. The NED website lists 65 projects that it has supported financially in recent years in Ukraine. The descriptions NED gives to the projects don’t reveal the fact that generally their programs impart the basic philosophy that working people and other citizens are best served under a system of free enterprise, class cooperation, collective bargaining, minimal government intervention in the economy, and opposition to socialism in any shape or form. A free-market economy is equated with democracy, reform, and growth; and the merits of foreign investment in their economy are emphasized.

 

The idea was that the NED would do somewhat overtly what the CIA had been doing covertly for decades, and thus, hopefully, eliminate the stigma associated with CIA covert activities. Allen Weinstein, who helped draft the legislation establishing NED, declared in 1991: “A lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA.”

 

NED, receives virtually all its financing from the US government ($5 billion in total since 1991), but it likes to refer to itself as an NGO (Non-governmental organization) because this helps to maintain a certain credibility abroad that an official US government agency might not have. But NGO is the wrong category. NED is a GO. Its long-time intervention in Ukraine is as supra-legal as the Russian military deployment there. Journalist Robert Parry has observed:

 

For NED and American neocons, Yanukovych’s electoral legitimacy lasted only as long as he accepted European demands for new “trade agreements” and stern economic “reforms” required by the International Monetary Fund. When Yanukovych was negotiating those pacts, he won praise, but when he judged the price too high for Ukraine and opted for a more generous deal from Russia, he immediately became a target for “regime change.”

 

Thus, we have to ask, as Mr. Putin asked – “Why?” Why has NED been funding 65 projects in one foreign country? Why were Washington officials grooming a replacement for President Yanukovych, legally and democratically elected in 2010, who, in the face of protests, moved elections up so he could have been voted out of office – not thrown out by a mob? Yanukovych made repeated important concessions, including amnesty for those arrested and offering, on January 25, to make two of his adversaries prime minister and deputy prime minister; all to no avail; key elements of the protestors, and those behind them, wanted their putsch.

 

Carl Gershman, president of NED, wrote last September that “Ukraine is the biggest prize”. 6The man knows whereof he speaks. He has presided over NED since its beginning, overseeing the Rose Revolution in Georgia (2003), the Orange Revolution in Ukraine (2004), the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon (2005), the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan (2005), the Green Revolution in Iran (2009), and now Ukraine once again. It’s as if the Cold War never ended.

 

The current unbridled animosity of the American media toward Putin also reflects an old practice. The United States is so accustomed to world leaders holding their tongue and not voicing criticism of Washington’s policies appropriate to the criminality of those policies, that when a Vladimir Putin comes along and expresses even a relatively mild condemnation he is labeled Public Enemy Number One and his words are accordingly ridiculed or ignored.

 

On March 2 US Secretary of State John Kerry condemned Russia’s “incredible act of aggression” in Ukraine (Crimea) and threatened economic sanctions. “You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text.”

 

Iraq was in the 21st century. Senator John Kerry voted for it. Hypocrisy of this magnitude has to be respected.

 

POSTSCRIPT:Ukraine’s interim prime minister announced March 7 that he has invited the NATO Council to hold a meeting in Kiev over the recent developments in the country. “I invited the North Atlantic Council to visit Kiev and hold a meeting there,” Arseny Yatsenyuk said during a visit to Brussels, where he met with NATO SecretaryGeneral Anders Fogh Rasmussen and EU officials. “We believe that it will strengthen our cooperation.”

Washington’s response, or lack of it, has confirmed the authenticity of a YouTube clip of a leaked telephone conversation between US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt that emerged February 6. In the call, posted by an anonymous Russian source, Nuland and Pyatt discuss installing a new, pro-US government that will incorporate the fascistic opposition which had been leading street protests against Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Even though Washington’s campaign for regime-change had been coordinated with the European Union, in the phone conversation with Pyatt, Nuland attacks the EU for being insufficiently aggressive, saying at one point, “Fuck the EU.” The same source has provided us with the text of a subsequent conversation between the EU and the US.

 

A Question re: Syria

 

There have been numerous news stories about Syrian government bombing of its civilian areas, with reports of many dead, and photos and videos of heavily damaged buildings. The source of the stories I’ve come across, when it’s mentioned at all, is almost always some element of the “rebels”; i.e., those opposing the Syrian government.

 

In all these stories – Have you ever seen a photo or a video of a plane dropping bombs? Or of the bombs in the air? I’m not saying that the bombings have not taken place. I’m just wondering why there is no graphic evidence of them.

 

Dialogue with readers

 

Last month’s report evoked an unusually large number of critical responses, concerning two basic issues:

 

1) My questioning the widely-held belief that if John F. Kennedy had not been assassinated he would have ended US military involvement in Vietnam. Those who wrote to me are convinced that in a second term as president, without the need to worry about re-election, the genuine liberal and man of peace residing inside JFK would have been free to blossom, and he would quickly have put an end to a war that he supposedly abhorred.

 

I had written in the report: “It appears that we’ll never know with any kind of certainty what would have happened if JFK had not been assassinated, but I still go by his Cold War record in concluding that US foreign policy would have continued along its imperial, anti-communist path.”

 

As I read letter after letter challenging this assertion, the thought occurred to me: This is just what we heard for four years concerning Barack Obama – In his second term the genuine liberal and man of peace would emerge; the Nobel Peace Laureate would show why he deserved the prize. Well, do I need to go into the awful details of the man’s second term, from drone assassinations to relentless persecution of whistleblowers who question his foreign policy?

 

In the land where happiness is guaranteed in the Declaration of Independence

 

President Obama and many other political and media figures have once again made discussion about the minimum wage a heated subject. Time for me to repeat something I wrote in 2007:

 

“Think raising the minimum wage is a good idea?”

 

“Think again.”

 

That was the message of a full-page advertisement that appeared in major newspapers in January. It was accompanied by statements of approval from the usual eminent suspects:

 

“The reason I object to the minimum wage is I think it destroys jobs, and I think the evidence on that, in my judgment, is overwhelming.” Alan Greenspan, former Federal Reserve Chairman

 

“The high rate of unemployment among teenagers, and especially black teenagers, is both a scandal and a serious source of social unrest. Yet it is largely a result of minimum wage laws.” Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize-winning economist

 

Well, if raising the minimum wage can produce such negative consequences, then surely it is clear what we as an enlightened and humane people must do. We must lower the minimum wage. And thus enjoy less unemployment, less social unrest. Indeed, if we lower the minimum wage to zero, particularly for poor blacks … think of it! … No unemployment at all! Hardly any social unrest! In fact – dare I say it? – What if we did away with wages altogether?

Holder can’t justify Obama’s

executive actions

 

 

 

(Breitbart) – Attorney General Eric Holder flubbed a question from Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) that is of vital importance to the rule of law.

 

While the Constitution allows – and sometimes requires – executive action on many matters, President Barack Obama has asserted executive authority in unprecedented ways. When Lee asked why one of Obama’s orders does not violate the Constitution, Holder – the chief legal officer of the nation – had no answer.

 

During a Senate oversight hearing, Lee asked Holder by what legal authority Obama suspended Obamacare’s employer mandate, which covers all companies with 50 or more employees. Holder admitted that he had no ready answer, that there were legal memos on this subject, but that he could not recall what they said. Lee sharply criticized this lack of an answer and requested that Holder provide to the committee copies of the legal memos making the case for Obama to be able to do this.

 

Video shows the details of the exchange, in which Holder said the President was on the strongest footing of taking action that changes the law governing the country.

 

Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution specifies the oath a person must take before he can exercise the powers of the presidency. As Obama has said twice, “I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

 

There are two elements: faithful execution and upholding the Constitution. Article II, Section 3 then explains what faithfully executing the office means, specifically imposing upon each president the duty that “he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” This means the president will adhere to each provision of the Constitution, enforce and administer all federal statutes and treaties, and defend those laws if they are challenged in court.

 

As I explore in my academic work “Take Care, Now,” forthcoming this spring in theHarvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, the Framers of the Constitution included the Take Care Clause to address a profound threat to a nation under the rule of law. The British king would sometimes exercise what was called the Royal Prerogative, whereby he would simply decline to uphold certain provisions of an Act of Parliament when he decided enforcement was unwarranted, or when it became politically inconvenient.

 

That is what Obama is doing. As my previous reporting explains in greater detail, the employer mandate is essential to the entire Affordable Care Act’s running as it is designed, and it does not permit anyone – including the president – to alter its requirements or waive its penalties.

 

The Take Care Clause requires the American head of state to carry out every Act of Congress adopted by the American people’s elected legislators. It also requires the president to obey every provision in the Constitution, giving full force to all of its powers and never stepping beyond any of its limitations.

 

Executive orders are more than just allowed by the Constitution; they are required by it. That’s because they are the means whereby presidents instruct their department heads and agencies specifically how to carry out certain programs and administer provisions in certain laws. They are part of faithfully executing laws made by Congress.

 

However, they are not presidential lawmaking, because that would be illegal. Article I, Section 1 of the Constitution provides that all legislative power is vested in Congress alone. Congress makes the laws, and the president enforces those laws. He can never make those laws.

 

It is even worse here, as Obama is lawmaking by negative. As I’ve previously written, you completely rewrite – or completely nullify – a law if you decline to enforce certain provisions in that law.

 

Similarly, executive agencies have always issued regulations to implement federal laws. In fact, many executive orders are nothing more than a president’s ordering an agency to develop new regulations to do a more effective job of carrying out a federal law. Those regulations carry the force of law.

 

Ever since FDR’s New Deal, new agencies have promulgated regulations that are substantive rather than just procedural. They look like mini-laws, instead of a play-by-play manual of how-to steps for carrying out Congress’s laws. For the past 80 years, the Supreme Court has struck down regulations that cross the line into lawmaking, and courts will regularly interpret regulations however narrowly is necessary to keep them within the boundaries of what Congress has authorized.

 

Obama has taken the problem of executive overreach to a new level, however. At least, even with federal regulations, an agency must go through a long process of public notice and receiving public comment before issuing regulations, and those rules can be taken to court under the Administrative Procedure Act, and “set aside” by the court if those regulations are “arbitrary or capricious,” “in excess of statutory jurisdiction, authority, or limitations,” or “otherwise not in accordance with law.”

 

By contrast, Obama is simply declaring things to be laws through executive orders that are not authorized by any Act of Congress. It fits a larger pattern, such as his agencies’ claiming the power to tell churches whom their ministers and leaders will be, proclaiming the U.S. Senate to be in recess when the Senate is in session so that Obama can make top-level appointments without Senate approval, and ordering Christian companies and Catholic charities to offer healthcare related to abortion. It is lawmaking through executive fiat.

 

Yet Holder cannot explain why the Constitution does not forbid what Obama is doing, or instead if Obama has actually created an imperial presidency. By not even having an answer ready, one has to wonder if he even considered this critically important question.

 

Then again, Holder serves under a president who at Monticello on Feb. 10 gave as a one-line summary of what being president means, “I can do whatever I want.” So is anyone surprised anymore?

Washington Orchestrated Protests Are Destabilizing Ukraine

The protests in the western Ukraine are organized by the CIA, the US State Department, and by Washington- and EU-financed Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that work in conjunction with the CIA and State Department. The purpose of the protests is to overturn the decision by the independent government of Ukraine not to join the EU.

The US and EU were initially cooperating in the effort to destroy the independence of Ukraine and make it a subservient entity to the EU government in Brussels. For the EU
government, the goal is to expand the EU. For Washington the purposes are to make
Ukraine available for looting by US banks and corporations and to bring Ukraine into NATO so that Washington can gain more military bases on Russia’s frontier. There are three countries in the world that are in the way of Washington’s hegemony over the world–Russia, China, and Iran. Each of these countries is targeted by Washington for overthrow or for their sovereignty to be degraded by propaganda and US military bases that leave the countries vulnerable to attack, thus coercing them into accepting Washington’s will.

The problem that has arisen between the US and EU with regard to Ukraine is that Europeans have realized that the takeover of Ukraine is a direct threat to Russia, which can cut Europe off from oil and natural gas, and if there is war completely destroy Europe. Consequently, the EU became willing to stop provoking the Ukraine protests.

The response of the neoconservative, Victoria Nuland, appointed Assistant Secretary of State by the duplicitous Obama, was “fuck the EU,” as she proceeded to describe the members of the Ukraine government that Washington tended to impose on a people so unaware as to believe that they are achieving independence by rushing into Washington’s arms. I once thought that no population could be as unaware as the US population. But I was wrong. Western Ukrainians are more unaware than Americans.

The orchestration of the “crisis” in Ukraine is easy. The neoconservative Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland told the National Press Club in Washington on December 13, 2013, that the US has “invested” $5 billion in agitation in Ukraine. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article37599.htm The crisis essentially resides in western Ukraine where romantic ideas about Russian oppression are strong and the population is less Russian than in the eastern Ukraine.

The hatred of Russia in western Ukraine is so dysfunctional that the duped protesters are unaware that joining the EU means the end of Ukraine independence and rule by the EU bureaucrats in Brussels, the European Central Bank, and US corporations. Perhaps Ukraine is two countries. The western half could be given to the EU and US corporations, and the eastern half could be reincorporated as part of Russia, where the entire Ukraine resided for as long as the US has existed.

The disaffection from Russia that exists in western Ukraine makes it easy for the EU and US to cause trouble. Those in Washington and Europe who wish to destroy Ukraine’s independence portray an independent Ukraine as a hostage of Russia, while a Ukraine in the EU is allegedly under the protection of the US and Europe. The large sums of money that Washington funnels into NGOs in Ukraine propagate this idea and work the population into a mindless frenzy. I have never in my life witnessed people as mindless as the Ukrainian protesters who are destroying the independence of their country.

The US- and EU-financed NGOs are fifth columns designed to destroy the independence of the countries in which they operate. Some pretend to be “human rights organizations.” Others indoctrinate people under cover of “education programs” and “building democracy.” Others, especially those run by the CIA, specialize in provocations such as “Pussy Riot.” Few if any of these NGOs are legitimate. But they are arrogant. The head of one of the NGOs announced prior to the Iranian elections in which Mousavi was Washington’s and the CIA’s candidate that the election would result in a Green Revolution. He knew this in advance, because he had helped to finance it with US taxpayer dollars. I wrote about it at the time. The Ukrainian “protesters” have been violent, but the police have been restrained. Washington has a vested interest in keeping the protests going in the hopes of turning the protests into revolt so that Washington can grab Ukraine. This week the US House of Representatives passed a resolution threatening sanctions should the violent protests be put down by the police.

In other words, if the Ukrainian police behave toward violent protesters in the way that US police behave toward peaceful protesters, it is reason for Washington to interfere in the internal affairs of Ukraine. Washington is using the protests to destroy the independence of Ukraine and has ready the list of puppets that Washington intends to install as Ukraine’s next government.

An exchange in January with Paul Farhi, Washington Post columnist, about coverage of US foreign policy:

 

Dear Mr. Farhi,

 

Now that you’ve done a study of al-Jazeera’s political bias in supporting Mohamed Morsi in Egypt, is it perhaps now time for a study of the US mass media’s bias on US foreign policy? And if you doubt the extent and depth of this bias, consider this:

 

There are more than 1,400 daily newspapers in the United States. Can you name a single paper, or a single TV network, that was unequivocally opposed to the American wars carried out against Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Panama, Grenada, and Vietnam? Or even opposed to any two of these wars? How about one? In 1968, six years into the Vietnam war, the Boston Globe http://williamblum.org/aer/read/125surveyed the editorial positions of 39 leading US papers concerning the war and found that “none advocated a pull-out”.

 

Now, can you name an American daily newspaper or TV network that more or less gives any support to any US government ODE (Officially Designated Enemy)? Like Hugo Chávez of Venezuela or his successor, Nicolás Maduro; Fidel or Raúl Castro of Cuba; Bashar al-Assad of Syria; Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran; Rafael Correa of Ecuador; or Evo Morales of Bolivia? I mean that presents the ODE’s point of view in a reasonably fair manner most of the time? Or any ODE of the recent past like Slobodan Milosevic of Serbia, Moammar Gaddafi of Libya, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, or Jean-Bertrand Aristide of Haiti?

 

Who in the mainstream media supports Hamas of Gaza? Or Hezbollah of Lebanon? Who in the mainstream media is outspokenly critical of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians? And keeps his or her job?

 

Who in the mainstream media treats Julian Assange or Chelsea Manning as the heroes they are?

 

And this same mainstream media tell us that Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, et al. do not have a real opposition media.

 

The ideology of the American mainstream media is the belief that they don’t have any ideology; that they are instead what they call “objective”. I submit that there is something more important in journalism than objectivity. It is capturing the essence, or the truth, if you will, with the proper context and history. This can, as well, serve as “enlightenment”.

 

It’s been said that the political spectrum concerning US foreign policy in the America mainstream media “runs the gamut from A to B”.

I think you’re conflating news coverage with editorial policy. They are not the same. What a newspaper advocates on its editorial page (the Vietnam example you cite) isn’t the same as what or how the story is covered in the news columns. News MAY have some advocacy in it, but it’s not supposed to, and not nearly as overt or blatant as an editorial or opinion column. Go back over all of your ODE examples and ask yourself if the news coverage was the same as the opinions about those ODEs. In most cases. I doubt it was.

Thank you for your remarkably prompt answer.

 

Your point about the difference between news coverage and editorial policy is important, but the fact is, as a daily, and careful, reader of the Post for the past 20 years I can attest to the extensive bias in its foreign policy coverage in the areas I listed. Juan Ferrero in Latin America and Kathy Lally in the Mideast are but two prime examples. The bias, most commonly, is one of omission more than commission; which is to say it’s what they leave out that distorts the news more than any factual errors or out-and-out lies. My Anti-Empire Report contains many examples of these omissions, as well as some errors of commission.

 

Incidentally, since 1995 I have written dozens of letters to the Post pointing out errors in foreign-policy coverage. Not one has been printed.

 

Happy New Year

 

 

I present here an extreme example of bias by omission, in the entire American mainstream media: In my last report I wrote of the committee appointed by the president to study NSA abuses – Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies – which actually came up with a few unexpected recommendations in its report presented December 13, the most interesting of which perhaps are these two:

 

“Governments should not use surveillance to steal industry secrets to advantage their domestic industry.”

 

“Governments should not use their offensive cyber capabilities to change the amounts held in financial accounts or otherwise manipulate the financial systems.”

 

So what do we have here? The NSA being used to steal industrial secrets; nothing to do with fighting terrorism. And the NSA stealing money and otherwise sabotaging unnamed financial systems, which may also represent gaining industrial advantage for the United States.

 

Long-time readers of this report may have come to the realization that I’m not an ecstatic admirer of US foreign policy. But this stuff shocks even me. It’s the gross pettiness of “The World’s Only Superpower”.

 

A careful search of the extensive Lexis-Nexis database failed to turn up a single American mainstream media source, print or broadcast, that mentioned this revelation. I found it only on those websites which carried my report, plus three other sites: Techdirt, Lawfare, and Crikey (First Digital Media).

 

For another very interesting and extreme example of bias by omission, as well as commission, very typical of US foreign policy coverage in the mainstream media: First read the January 31, page one, Washington Post article making fun of socialism in Venezuela and Cuba.

 

Then read the response from two Americans who have spent a lot of time in Venezuela, are fluent in Spanish, and whose opinions about the article I solicited.

 

I lived in Chile during the 1972-73 period under Salvadore Allende and his Socialist Party. The conservative Chilean media’s sarcastic claims at the time about shortages and socialist incompetence were identical to what we’ve been seeing for years in the United States concerning Venezuela and Cuba. The Washington Post article on Venezuela referred to above could have been lifted out of Chile’s El Mercurio, 1973.

 

[Note to readers: Please do not send me the usual complaints about my using the name “America(n)” to refer to “The United States”. I find it to be a meaningless issue, if not plain silly.]

 

JFK, RFK, and some myths about US foreign policy

 

On April 30, 1964, five months after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, his brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, was interviewed by John B. Martin in one of a series of oral history sessions with RFK. Part of the interview appears in the book “JFK Conservative” by Ira Stoll, published three months ago. (pages 192-3)

 

RFK: The president … had a strong, overwhelming reason for being in Vietnam and that we should win the war in Vietnam.

 

MARTIN: What was the overwhelming reason?

 

RFK: Just the loss of all of Southeast Asia if you lost Vietnam. I think everybody was quite clear that the rest of Southeast Asia would fall.

 

MARTIN: What if it did?

 

RFK: Just have profound effects as far as our position throughout the world, and our position in a rather vital part of the world. Also it would affect what happened in India, of course, which in turn has an effect on the Middle East. Just as it would have, everybody felt, a very adverse effect. It would have an effect on Indonesia, hundred million population. All of those countries would be affected by the fall of Vietnam to the Communists.

 

MARTIN: There was never any consideration given to pulling out?

 

RFK: No.

 

MARTIN: … The president was convinced that we had to keep, had to stay in there …

 

RFK: Yes.

 

MARTIN: … And couldn’t lose it.

 

RFK: Yes.

 

These remarks are rather instructive from several points of view:

 

  1. Robert Kennedy contradicts the many people who are convinced that, had he lived, JFK would have brought the US involvement in Vietnam to a fairly prompt end, instead of it continuing for ten more terrible years. The author, Stoll, quotes a few of these people. And these other statements are just as convincing as RFK’s statements presented here. And if that is not confusing enough, Stoll then quotes RFK himself in 1967 speaking unmistakably in support of the war.

 

It appears that we’ll never know with any kind of certainty what would have happened if JFK had not been assassinated, but I still go by his Cold War record in concluding that US foreign policy would have continued along its imperial, anti-communist path. In Kennedy’s short time in office the United States unleashed many different types of hostility, from attempts to overthrow governments and suppress political movements to assassination attempts against leaders and actual military combat; with one or more of these occurring in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, British Guiana, Iraq, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Brazil.

 

  1. “Just have profound effects as far as our position throughout the world, and our position in a rather vital part of the world.”

 

Ah yes, a vital part of the world. Has there ever been any part of the world, or any country, that the US has intervened in that was not vital? Vital to American interests? Vital to our national security? Of great strategic importance? Here’s President Carter in his 1980 State of the Union Address: “An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America”.

  1. If the US lost Vietnam “everybody was quite clear that the rest of Southeast Asia would fall.”

 

As I once wrote:

 

Thus it was that the worst of Washington’s fears had come to pass: All of Indochina – Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos – had fallen to the Communists. During the initial period of US involvement in Indochina in the 1950s, John Foster Dulles, Dwight Eisenhower and other American officials regularly issued doomsday pronouncements of the type known as the “Domino Theory”, warning that if Indochina should fall, other nations in Asia would topple over as well. In one instance, President Eisenhower listed no less than Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Indonesia amongst the anticipated “falling dominos”. http://williamblum.org/aer/read/125

 

Such warnings were repeated periodically over the next decade by succeeding administrations and other supporters of US policy in Indochina as a key argument in defense of such policy. The fact that these ominous predictions turned out to have no basis in reality did not deter Washington officialdom from promulgating the same dogma up until the 1990s about almost each new world “trouble-spot”, testimony to their unshakable faith in the existence and inter-workings of the International Communist Conspiracy.

 

Killing suicide

 

Suicide bombers have become an international tragedy. One can not sit in a restaurant or wait for a bus or go for a walk downtown, in Afghanistan or Pakistan or Iraq or Russia or Syria and elsewhere without fearing for one’s life from a person walking innocently by or a car that just quietly parked nearby. The Pentagon has been working for years to devise a means of countering this powerful weapon.

 

As far as we know, they haven’t come up with anything. So I’d like to suggest a possible solution. Go to the very source. Flood selected Islamic societies with this message: “There is no heavenly reward for dying a martyr. There are no 72 beautiful virgins waiting to reward you for giving your life for jihad. No virgins at all. No sex at all.”

 

Using every means of communication, from Facebook to skywriting, from billboards to television, plant the seed of doubt, perhaps the very first such seed the young men have ever experienced. As some wise anonymous soul once wrote:

 

A person is unambivalent only with regard to those few beliefs, attitudes and characteristics which are truly universal in his experience. Thus a man might believe that the world is flat without really being aware that he did so – if everyone in his society shared the assumption. The flatness of the world would be simply a “self-evident” fact. But if he once became conscious of thinking that the world is flat, he would be capable of conceiving that it might be otherwise. He might then be spurred to invent elaborate proofs of its flatness, but he would have lost the innocence of absolute and unambivalent belief.

 

We have to capture the minds of these suicide bombers. At the same time we can work on our own soldiers. Making them fully conscious of their belief, their precious belief, that their government means well, that they’re fighting for freedom and democracy, and for that thing called “American exceptionalism”. It could save them from committing their own form of suicide.

Believe it or … it’s consequences ?

 

Has NASA Mooned America?

 

 

 

Firstly, some quotes from William Branham:

 

“I tell you now, it’s a program that’ll take you a hundred billion, billion, million light years beyond the moon. That’s right. And there if you go to the moon you couldn’t set down because see, you’d jump right back up unless you had some magnet to hold you there. You couldn’t stay over night; you’d freeze to death. In the daytime you’d burn up.* What you going to do when you get there?” (Basis of Fellowship 61-0214)

* The surface temperature at the lunar equator during the day is 134oC (+273oF), and at night is -153oC (-244oF).

A book came a couple days ago from a reader who wanted to swap it for copies of some of my books. This one sure got may attention. I was busy trying to find out more about dowsing from a couple of new books l’d just bought, but this one made me put everything else down.

My first reaction was probably what yours will be. It’s “NASA Mooned America!” by Rene, 196p, 1994. The ridiculous claim is that the Apollo missions to the moon never actually happened. Oh, Lordy, give me a break! What is this, some Flat Earth Society-type crappola? However, not being completely controlled by what I have been conditioned to believe, I read on. Rene has done a masterful job of destroying what little faith I had left in NASA. He shows evidence that many of their photographs of the moon missions are clearly bogus; he proves beyond a reasonable doubt that nobody can survive in space beyond the protection of the Van Allen Belt: and so on. By the time he’s through, there’s just no doubt that our government has produced a $40 billion space opera for us.

Yes, of course, Wayne has gone off his rocker with this one. Sure. Okay, smarty, what’s the temperature in space? Hot? Cold? We all know it’s awfully cold, right? The fact is, when the sun is shining on anything it gets blistering hot. The surface of the moon is 243øF in the sun and for the two weeks of night. Our astronauts were just there in the daylight, so they were dealing with an environment that was around 250ø, with nowhere near enough power to run the cooling system needed to deal with that. Rene goes into every aspect of the inability of any living thing to survive the solar flares that occurred during the missions with the little shielding used, the temperatures involved in space and on the moon. The astronauts reported that the LEM blasted a deep crater in landing on the moon. Why has not one NASA photo of the LEM on the moon ever shown a hint of this crater? They do show undisturbed dirt, complete with footprints (more about this impossibility later).

There are endless holes in the NASA production. Wait’ll you see the not quite hidden power cords in some photos supposedly taken on the moon. Then there’s one photo in the book of Aldrin and Armstrong saluting the flag, where they claim the sun is at about 13ø, but Aldrin’s photo was taken when the sun was at 26.4ø and Armstrong’s was taken with the sun at 34.9ø, if one goes by the shadows they cast. Worse, the shadows are in two different directions, and the flag casts no shadow at all. The angles of the sun were calculated by the lengths of the shadows compared to the height of the men. The sun moves about 10ø a day, so Aldrin’s photo would have had to be taken a day after they claimed, and Armstrong’s a day later, all followed by some computer trickery to combine them.

 

Or was all of this done in a secret Nevada CIA base?

 

Rene provides a book full of proof that the whole moon deal was a fake put together by NASA and the CIA. It’s a very well-written and researched book. It reduces our Right Stuff heroes to mere actors who have gone along with a Hollywood-type production. And those who caused any problems were killed! Did the “accidents” which killed 11 astronauts in 1967 raise any questions in your mind?

 

Illusions

 

It’s difficult for me to get used to the real world. it sure isn’t anything like I was taught in school, or anything my parents led me to believe. The more I learn, the less I have to believe in. Politics is crooked clear through, with money, via lobbies, firmly in control. The medical industry is just as crooked, protecting its $1 trillion business with the co-operation of the government. Our legal system is seriously corrupt, as is our educational Industry, again with the complicity of the government. Our academic system is corrupt, again in bed with our government. Should I mention our tobacco industry? And liquor industry? Our public water supplies, packed with chlorine and fluorides? Oh yes, our dental industry, with amalgams and root canals. Our food industry, providing us with hormones, pesticides, antibiotics, and de-mineralized produce.

So l suppose I am pretty dumb, or at least naive, to be surprised to read an expose showing NASA to be siphoning off billions to produce block-buster entertainment epics, hand in hand with the CIA.

The worst part is that even with our government and, as far as I know, every major industry, thoroughly corrupt, we seem to have the best country in the world. Maybe I should just shut up and go along to get along. Maybe I should go back to grumbling about the bad language, rudeness, and brain-free contacts on our ham bands. And fan the flames between no-coders and old-timers. The CW and phone ops. And any other ham schisms.

Say, those confounded packeteers aren’t going to screw around with the Internet, are they?

Heck if you get to know many of the ARRL directors beyond the thoroughly white-washed meeting reports in QST, you’ll find out in what contempt they hold the members. That really disillusioned me when I got on the inside and got to know all the players. Suddenly I found that the ARRL General Manager, the League counsel, and the directors all thought of the members as sheep, with no opinions worthy of consideration. It’s the same arrogant attitude I see in most politicians.

Hey, if I suddenly “die” of a heart attack, I want you to know that my heart is in fine shape and that the CIA seems to leave a trail of heart attack victims who have caused trouble. Shades of the KGB! The Apollo mission data is still highly classified, so my reporting on the book may be endangering our country.

 

Exit Line

 

When this book arrived and I saw that it was an expose of NASA, claiming that the moon flights were all faked, I expected to start reading the unusual unsupported baloney like that which supports just about every claim I’ve read for zero-point energy, N-machines, and other mysterious new power sources. I was a 100% total believer in space flight. Oh I didn’t think the potential benefits of visiting Mars were worth the investment, considering the federal deficit, so I was glad to see that program canceled last year. Ditto the super collider.

But I’ve been a space fan since childhood. I got hooked early by a cartoon strip around 1929 called “Jack Swift.” No relation to Tom Swift, though later in my childhood I enjoyed those books. Buck Rogers was there, but he didn’t hold a candle to Jack Swift. Nor did Flash Gordon. Heck, the early Buck Rogers cartoons still had people using airplanes in the 25th century. Tsk.

So the whole idea that the Apollo flights had been no more real than the recent award-winning Apollo-13 movie was totally preposterous. But once I started reading l couldn’t stop. Indisputable evidence piled up, fact after fact. As far as I know, no one who has read the book remains unconvinced that the world has been sucked in by one of the biggest snow jobs in history. If you read the book and aren’t amazed at the enormousness of the deceit, and the success NASA and the ClA have had in keeping, it secret. I sure want to hear from you.

Well, they did as good a job with secrecy on the Manhattan Project back 50-some years ago.

And why didn’t Russia blow the whistle, when they had to know early on that man would never survive in space beyond the Van Allen Belt without massive shielding against the intense radiation from solar flares? Read the book on our cost to bribe them.

Say, I wonder what else our beloved government has been doing that we haven’t heard about? Let me know, okay?

So why do we see boot prints where the astronauts have walked? You’ve walked in dry dirt and sand. It takes moisture to hold a print. A professional photographer writes: The first thing that made me suspicious of the alleged Moon Landing were the Photos. To me they were BAD Fakes. . .

I used a Hasselblad camera for many years. The Astronauts had their Hasselblads fixed to their chest and those helmets made it impossible to bend their heads to look into the viewfinder. I believe their cameras did NOT have viewfinders, so HOW did they focus? They had NO lightmeter so HOW did they measure the light? With those thick gloves HOW did they adjust the F-Stop and shutterspeed? HOW did they change films?

Kodak film, in a Hasselblad camera, like those worn by the phony ‘moon-walkers,’ begins to melt at 150oF. Heat is infra-red radiation and will expose the sensitive film, as it did when we left our cameras in cars years ago. Most meat is well done at 160oF, and there were NO air conditioner units mounted on the cameras (or anywhere else) to combat 273oF heat, so NO pictures could be brought back to analyze their fraud.

Roverlanding moduleWHY is it when on TV News programmes, when two journalists are talking, say one in Canberra one in Sydney, that because of the distance there is a TIME-LAPSE when answering questions, BUT in discussions between the MOON and HOUSTON there was NO TIME LAPSE? HOW is it that the moon’s surface is supposedly very dry like the sand on the beach yet their boots left SHARP imprints in the sand? Their little Rover threw up clouds of sand when it drove around BUT on the landing pads of their landing rocket there was NO sand . . . . ALSO, their lander stood upright on legs and facing the sky so HOW did the astronauts get that Buggy OUT of their landing module?

 

Here are 33 points that need to be answered!

 

1) Sceptics argue that the lack of stars on Moon photographs is acceptable, despite zero atmosphere to obscure the view. Yuri Gagarin, pronounced the stars to be “astonishingly brilliant.” See the official NASA pictures above that I have reproduced that show ‘stars’ in the sky, as viewed from the lunar surface. And why exactly do you think there are hardly any stars visible on Apollo films taken from the Moon? The answer is simple—Professional astronomers would quickly calculate that the configuration and distances of star formations were incorrect and so NASA had to remove them to make sure they could keep up the scam.

Faked LM on Moon2) The pure oxygen atmosphere in the module would have melted the Hasselblad’s camera covering and produced poisonous gases. Why weren’t the astronauts affected?

3) There should have been a substantial crater blasted out under the LM’s 10,000 pound thrust rocket. Sceptics would have you believe that the engines only had the power to blow the dust from underneath the LM as it landed. If this is true, how did Armstrong create that famous boot print if all the dust had been blown away?

4) Sceptics claim that you cannot produce a flame in a vacuum because of the lack of oxygen. So how come footage showing flame coming from the exhaust of an Apollo lander? (Either the sceptics are wrong or the footage shows the lander working in an atmosphere).

5) Footprints are the result of weight displacing air or moisture from between particles of dirt, dust, or sand. Armstrong called it powder. Astronauts left distinct footprints all over the place.

6) The Apollo 11 TV pictures were poor, yet the broadcast quality magically became fine on the five subsequent missions.

Faked Aldrin walking on Moon7) Why in most Apollo photos, is there a clear line of definition between the rough foreground and the smooth background?

8) Why did so many NASA Moonscape photos have non parallel shadows? sceptics will tell you because there is two sources of light on the Moon—the Sun and the Earth . . . . That maybe the case, but the shadows would still fall in the same direction, not two or three different angles and Earth shine would have no effect during the bright lunar day (the time at which the Apollo was on the Moon).

9) Why did one of the stage prop rocks have a capital “C” on it and a ‘C’ on the ground in front of it?

10) How did the fibreglass whip antenna on the Gemini 6A capsule survive the tremendous heat of atmospheric re-entry?

11) In Ron Howard’s 1995 science fiction movie, Apollo 13, astronauts lose electrical power and begin worrying about freezing to death. In reality, of course, the relentless bombardment of the Sun’s rays would rapidly have overheated the vehicle to lethal temperatures with no atmosphere into which to dump the heat build up.

12) Who would dare risk using the LM on the Moon when a simulated Moon landing was never tested?

13) Instead of being able to jump at least ten feet high in “one sixth” gravity, the highest jump was about nineteen inches.

14) Even though slow motion photography was able to give a fairly convincing appearance of very low gravity, it could not disguise the fact that the astronauts travelled no further between steps than they would have on Earth.

15) If the Rover buggy had actually been moving in one-sixth gravity, then it would have required a twenty foot width in order not to have flipped over on nearly every turn. The Rover had the same width as ordinary small cars.

16) An astrophysicist who has worked for NASA writes that it takes two meters of shielding to protect against medium solar flares and that heavy ones give out tens of thousands of rem in a few hours. Russian scientists calculated in 1959 that astronauts needed a shield of 4 feet of lead to protect them on the Moons surface. Why didn’t the astronauts on Apollo 14 and 16 die after exposure to this immense amount of radiation? And why are NASA only starting a project now to test the lunar radiation levels and what their effects would be on the human body if they have sent 12 men there already?

17) The fabric space suits had a crotch to shoulder zipper. There should have been fast leakage of air since even a pinhole deflates a tyre in short order.

18) The astronauts in these “pressurized” suits were easily able to bend their fingers, wrists, elbows, and knees at 5.2 p.s.i. and yet a boxer’s 4 p.s.i. speed bag is virtually unbendable. The guys would have looked like balloon men if the suits had actually been pressurized.

19) How did the astronauts leave the LEM? In the documentary ‘Paper Moon’ The host measures a replica of the LEM at The Space Centre in Houston, what he finds is that the ‘official’ measurements released by NASA are bogus and that the astronauts could not have got out of the LEM.

20) The water sourced air conditioner backpacks should have produced frequent explosive vapour discharges. They never did.

21) During the Apollo 14 flag setup ceremony, the flag would not stop fluttering.

22) With more than a two second signal transmission round trip, how did a camera pan upward to track the departure of the Apollo 16 LEM? Gus Grissom, before he got burned alive in the Apollo I disaster A few minutes before he was burned to death in the Apollo I tragedy, Gus Grissom said, ‘Hey, you guys in the control center, get with it. You expect me to go to the moon and you can’t even maintain telephonic communications over three miles.’ This statement says a lot about what Grissom thought about NASA’s progress in the great space race.

23) Why did NASA’s administrator resign just days before the first Apollo mission?

24) NASA launched the TETR-A satellite just months before the first lunar mission. The proclaimed purpose was to simulate transmissions coming from the moon so that the Houston ground crews (all those employees sitting behind computer screens at Mission Control) could “rehearse” the first moon landing. In other words, though NASA claimed that the satellite crashed shortly before the first lunar mission (a misinformation lie), its real purpose was to relay voice, fuel consumption, altitude, and telemetry data as if the transmissions were coming from an Apollo spacecraft as it neared the moon. Very few NASA employees knew the truth because they believed that the computer and television data they were receiving was the genuine article. Merely a hundred or so knew what was really going on; not tens of thousands as it might first appear.

25) In 1998, the Space Shuttle flew to one of its highest altitudes ever, three hundred and fifty miles, hundreds of miles below merely the beginning of the Van Allen Radiation Belts. Inside of their shielding, superior to that which the Apollo astronauts possessed, the shuttle astronauts reported being able to “see” the radiation with their eyes closed penetrating their shielding as well as the retinas of their closed eyes. For a dental x-ray on Earth which lasts 1/100th of a second we wear a 1/4 inch lead vest. Imagine what it would be like to endure several hours of radiation that you can see with your eyes closed from hundreds of miles away with 1/8 of an inch of aluminium shielding! The Solar Wind is the major source of ionizing radiation which strikes Earth’s TWO protective shields, the magnetic field and the Van Allen Belt. This extends from 500 miles above Earth’s surface to over 100,000 miles into space. Space orbiters must stay well below 500 miles beneath the VAB due to high radiation trapped there that will even damage equipment.

The Solar Wind is an extension of the Corona, a ‘soup’ of deadly ionizing radiation. The major types of radiation particles in the Solar Wind are protons, alpha particles, and electrons (beta) traveling at the speed of light and contributing the VELOCITY of the Solar Wind. Solar flare activity, massive major nuclear explosions on the surface of the Sun, increase the Solar Wind, raising radiation to levels powerful enough to affect power grids on Earth. Scientists believe that the solar wind has stripped away the original atmosphere of Mars, hence there is no life on Mars.

26) The Apollo 1 fire of January 27, 1967, killed what would have been the first crew to walk on the Moon just days after the commander, Gus Grissom, held an unapproved press conference complaining that they were at least ten years, not two, from reaching the Moon. The dead man’s own son, who is a seasoned pilot himself, has in his possession forensic evidence personally retrieved from the charred spacecraft (that the government has tried to destroy on two or more occasions). Gus Grissom was obviously trying to make a big statement as he placed a lemon in the window of the Apollo I spacecraft as it sat ready for launch!

27) CNN issued the following report, “The radiation belts surrounding Earth may be more dangerous for astronauts than previously believed (like when they supposedly went through them thirty years ago to reach the Moon). The phenomenon known as the ‘Van Allen Belts’ can spawn (newly discovered) ‘Killer Electrons’ that can dramatically affect the astronauts’ health.”

28) In 1969 computer chips had not been invented. The maximum computer memory was 256k, and this was housed in a large air conditioned building. In 2002 a top of the range computer requires at least 64 Mb of memory to run a simulated Moon landing, and that does not include the memory required to take off again once landed. The alleged computer on board Apollo 11 had 32k of memory. That’s the equivalent of a simple calculator.

29) If debris from the Apollo missions was left on the Moon, then it would be visible today through a powerful telescope, however no such debris can be seen. The Clementine probe that recently mapped the Moons surface failed to show any Apollo artefacts left by Man during the missions. Where did the Moon Buggy and base of the LM go?

30) In the year 2005 NASA does not have the technology to land any man, or woman on the Moon, and return them safely to Earth.

31) Film evidence has recently been uncovered of a mis-labelled, unedited, behind-the-scenes video film, showing the crew of Apollo 11 staging part of their photography. The film evidence is shown in the video A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon!” And appears above in the ‘Why did Apollo 11 Astronauts Lie about being in Deep Space?’

32) Why did the blueprints and plans for the Lunar Module and Moon Buggy get destroyed if this was one of History’s greatest accomplishments?

33) Why did NASA need to airbrush out anomalies from lunar footage of the Moon if they have nothing to hide? The Apollo mission was meticulously planned, yet there were still flaws in the plan which the public is being made aware of as time goes on. Unlike a simple game of bingo where nothing is planned and no strategy is involved the Apollo mission was thought out and at the time there seemed to be an answer to every question that arose. How much does a Miracle Cost?

 

A little girl went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured the change on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.

Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way six blocks to Rexall’s Drug Store with the big Red Indian Chief sign above the door.

She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was busy at the moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!

‘And what do you want?’ the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice? ‘I’m talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven’t seen in ages,’ he said without waiting for a reply to his question.

‘Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,’

Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. ‘He’s really, really sick . . . and I want to buy a miracle.’

‘I beg your pardon?’ said the pharmacist.

‘His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?’

‘We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I’m sorry but I can’t help you,’ the pharmacist said, softening a little.

‘Listen’ the girl said. ‘I have the money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.’

The pharmacist’s brother, a well-dressed man, was standing there. He stooped down and asked the little girl, ‘What kind of a miracle does your brother need?’

‘I don’t know,’ Tess replied with her eyes welling up. I just know he’s really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can’t pay for it, so I want to use my money.’

‘How much do you have?’ asked the man from Chicago.

‘One dollar and eleven cents,’ Tess answered, barely audible. ‘And it’s all the money I have, but I can get some more if I have to.’

‘Well, what a coincidence,’ smiled the man. ‘A dollar and eleven cents—the exact price of a miracle for little brothers.’

He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said ‘Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the miracle you need.’

That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, who specialized in neuro-surgery.

The operation was completed free of charge and it wasn’t long until Andrew was home again and doing well.

Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place.

‘That surgery,’ her Mom whispered, ‘was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost’.

Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost—one dollar and eleven cents—plus the faith of a little child.

In our lives, we never know how many miracles we will need. A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law.

The Obama Regime’s Fabricated “Terror Conspiracy” in Defense of the Police State

Introduction Representative democracies and autocratic dictatorships respond to profound internal crises in very distinctive ways: the former attempts to reason with citizens, explaining the causes, consequences and alternatives; dictatorships attempt to terrorize, intimidate and distract the public by evoking bogus external threats, to perpetuate and justify rule by police state methods and avoid facing up to the self-inflicted crises.

 

 

Such a bogus fabrication is evident in the Obama regime’s current announcements of an imminent global “terrorist threat”[1] in the face of multiple crises, policy failures and defeats throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Southwest Asia.

 

Internet ‘Chatter’ Evokes a Global Conspiracy and Revives the Global War on Terror

 

The entire terror conspiracy propaganda blitz, launched by the Obama regime and propagated by the mass media, is based on the flimsiest sources imaginable, the most laughable pretext. According to White House sources, the National Security Agency, the CIA and other spy agencies claimed to have monitored and intercepted unspecified Al-Qaeda threats, conversations by two Al Qaeda figures including Ayman al Zawahiri[2].

 

Most damaging, the Obama regime’s claim of a global threat by al-Qaeda, necessitating the shutdown of 19 embassies and consuls and a world-wide travelers alert, flies in the face of repeated public assertions over the past five years that Washington has dealt ‘mortal blows’ to the terrorist organization crippling its operative capacity[3] and citing the US “military successes” in Afghanistan and Iraq, its assassination of Bin Laden, the drone attacks in Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia and the US-backed invasion of Libya. Either the Obama regime was lying in the past or its current terror alert is a fabrication. If, as Obama and the NSA currently claim, Al Qaeda has re-emerged as a global terrorist threat, then twelve years of warfare in Afghanistan and eleven years of war in Iraq, the spending of $1.46 trillion dollars, the loss of over seven thousand US soldiers[4] and the physical and psychological maiming of over a hundred thousand US combatants has been a total and unmitigated disaster and the so-called war on terror is a failure.

 

The claim of a global terror threat, based on NSA surveillance of two Yemen-based Al Qaeda leaders, is as shallow as it is implausible. Every day throughout cyberspace one or another Islamist terrorist group or individual discuss terror plots, fantasies and plans of no great consequence.

 

The Obama regime fails to explain why, out of thousands of daily internet ‘conversations’, this particular one, at this particular moment, represents an ongoing viable terrorist operation. One does not need a million spies to pick up jihadist chatter about “attacking Satan”.

 

For over a decade, Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen have been engaging in a proxy war with Washington-backed regimes and over the same time the Obama regime has been engaged in drone and Special Forces assassination mission against Yemeni militants and opposition figures[5]. In other words, the Obama regime has magnified commonplace events, related to an ongoing conflict known to the public, into a new global terrorist threat as revealed by his spymasters because of their high powered espionage prowess!

 

It is more than obvious that the Obama regime is engaged in a global fabrication designed to distract world public opinion and, in particular, the majority of US citizens, from police state spying and violations of basic constitutional freedoms.

 

By evoking a phony “terrorist threat” and its detection by the NSA, Obama hopes to re-legitimate his discredited police state apparatus.

 

More important, by raising the specter of a global terrorist threat, the Obama regime seeks to cover-up the most disreputable policies, despicable “show trials” and harsh imprisonment of government whistle blowers and political, diplomatic and military defeats and failures which have befallen the empire in the present period.

 

The Timing of the Fabrication of the Global Terror Threat

 

In recent years the US public has grown weary of the cost and inconclusive nature of the ‘global war on terror’, or GWOT. Public opinion polls support the withdrawal of troops from overseas wars and back domestic social programs over military spending and new invasions. Yet the Obama regime, aided and abetted by the pro-Israel power configuration, in and out of the government, engages in constant pursuit of war policies aimed at Iran, Syria, Lebanon and any other Moslem country opposed to Israel’s erasure of Arab Palestine. The “brilliant” pro-war strategists and advisers in the Obama regime have pursued military and diplomatic policies which have led to political disasters, monstrous human rights violations and the gutting of US constitutional protections guaranteed to its citizens. To continue the pursuit of repeated failed policies, a gargantuan police state has been erected to spy, control and represses US citizens and overseas countries, allies and adversaries.

 

The “terror threat” fabrication occurs at a time and in response to the deepening international crisis and the political impasse facing the Obama regime – a time of deepening disenchantment among domestic and overseas public opinion and increasing pressure from the Israel Firsters to continue to press forward with the military agenda.

 

The single most devastating blow to the police state buildup are the documents made public by the NSA contractor, Edward Snowden, which revealed the vast worldwide network of NSA spying in violation of US constitutional freedoms and the sovereignty of countries. The revelations have discredited the Obama regime, provoked conflicts within and between allies, and strengthened the position of adversaries and critics of the US Empire.

 

Leading regional organizations, like MERCOSUR in Latin America, have attacked ‘cyber-imperialism’; the EU countries have questioned the notion of ‘intelligence cooperation’. Even dozens of US Congress people have called for reform and cutbacks in NSA funding.

 

The “terror threats” are timed by Obama to neutralize the Snowden revelations and justify the spy agency and its vast operations.

 

The Bradley Manning “show trial”, in which a soldier is tortured, often with forced nudity, in solitary confinement for almost a year, imprisoned for three years before his trial and publically prejudged by President Obama, numerous legislators and mass media (precluding any semblance of ‘fairness’), for revealing US war crimes against Iraqi and Afghan civilians, evoked mass protests the world over. Obama’s “terror threat” is trotted out to coincide with the pre-determined conviction of Manning in this discredited judicial farce and to buttress the argument that his exposure of gross US war crimes “served the enemy” (rather than the American public who Manning repeatedly has said deserve to know about the atrocities committed in its name). By re-launching the “war on terror” and intimidating the US public, the Obama regime is trying to discredit Bradley Manning’s heroic revelations of documented US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan by focusing on nebulous Al Qaeda terror threats over the internet!

 

In the international political arena, Obama has suffered a series of repeated political and diplomatic defeats with far-reaching implications for his fanatical empire building project. The Obama-backed and Al Qaeda-led Islamist mercenary invasion of the sovereign nation of Syria has suffered a series of military defeats and his proxy jihadist ‘freedom-fighters’ have been denounced by most prestigious human rights groups for their massacres and ethnic cleansing of civilian populations in Syria (especially Christians, Kurds, Alevis and secular Syrians). Obama’s Syrian ‘adventure’ has backfired, and is clearly unleashing a new generation of Islamist terrorists, armed by the Gulf States – especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar, trained by Turkish and NATO Special Forces and now available for global terrorist “assignments” against US client states, Europe and the US itself. In turn the Syrian debacle has had a major impact on Obama’s NATO ally, Turkey, where mass protests are challenging Prime Minister Erdogan’s military support for Islamist mercenaries, based along the Turkish border with Syria. Erdogan’s savage repression of hundreds of thousands of peaceful protestors, the arbitrary arrest of thousands of pro-democracy activists and his own “show trials” of hundreds of journalists, military officials, students, intellectuals and trade unionists, has certainly discredited Obama’s main “democratic Islamist” ally and undermined Washington’s attempt to anchor its dominance via a triangular alliance of Israel, Turkey and the Gulf monarchies.

 

Further discredit of Obama’s foreign policy of co-opting Islamist “electoral regimes” has occurred in Egypt and is pending in Tunisia. Obama’s post-Mubarak policy in Egypt looked to a “power sharing” arrangement between the democratically elected President Morsi of the Moslem Brotherhood, the Mubarak-era military and neo-liberal politicians, like Mohamed El Baradei. Instead, General Sistani grabbed power via the army, overthrowing and jailing the civilian President Morsi. The Egyptian army under Sistani has massacred peaceful pro-democracy Muslim protestors and purged the parliament, press and independent voices. Forced to choose between the military dictatorship composed of the henchman of the former Mubarak dictatorship and the mass-based Muslim Brotherhood, US Secretary of State John Kerry backed the military take-over as a “transition to democracy” (steadfastly refusing to use the term ‘coup d’état’). This has opened wide the door to a period of mass repression and resistance in Egypt and severely weakened a key link in the “axis of reaction” in North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt).

 

Obama’s incapacity to deal with the new peace overtures by the recently elected President Rouhani in Iran was evident in the Administrations capitulation to a Congressional vote (420 – 20) in favor of further and more severe sanctions designed, according to the bill’s AIPAC authors, to “strangle the Iranian oil economy”. Secretary of State Kerry’s offer to “negotiate” with Iran, under a US-imposed blockade and economic sanctions, was seen in Teheran, and by most independent observers, as an empty theatrical gesture, of little consequence. Obama’s failure to check the Israeli-Zionist stranglehold on US foreign policy toward Iran and to strike a deal ensuring a nuclear-weapon-free Iran, ensures that the region will continue to be a political and military powder keg. Obama’s appointments of prominent Zionist zealots to strategic Middle East policy positions ensures that the US and the Obama regime have no options for Iran, Palestine, Syria or Lebanon– except to follow the options dictated by Tel Aviv directly to its US agents, the 52 Presidents of the Major American Jewish Organizations, who along with their insider Zionist collaborators, co-author the Middle East policy script for the US Congress and the White House.

 

The Obama regime’s Israeli-Palestine peace negotiations are seen by most observers as the most distorted and bizarre efforts to date in that cruel farce. Washington has purchased the leaders of the Palestinian ‘Authority’ with multi-million dollar handouts and gave way to Israel’s accelerated land grabbing in the occupied West Bank and ‘Jews only’ settlement construction, as well as the mass eviction of 40,000 Bedouins within Israel itself.

 

To ensure the desired result – a total fiasco, Obama appointed one of the most fanatical of pro-Israeli zealots in Washington as its “mediator”, the tri-national Martin Indyk, known in diplomatic circles as “Israel’s lawyer” (and the first US Ambassador to be stripped of security clearance for mishandling documents.)

 

The breakdown of the negotiations is foretold. Obama, caught in the web of his own long-term reactionary alliances and loyalties and obsessed with military solutions, has developed a knack for engaging in prolonged losing wars, multiplying enemies and alienating allies.

 

Conclusion

 

The result of prolonged unpopular wars of aggression has been the massive built-up of a monstrous domestic police state, pervasive spying around the world and the commission of egregious violations of the US Constitution. This, in turn, has led to crudely concocted “terror plots” to cover-up the repeated foreign policy failures and to slander and persecute courageous whistle blowers and threaten other decent American patriots. The recent declaration of another vast ‘terror plot’, which served to justify the illegal activities of US spy agencies and ‘unify Congress’, produced hysteria lasting less than a week. Subsequently, reports began to trickle in, even in the obedient US mass media, discrediting the basis of the alleged global terror conspiracy. According to one report, the much-ballyhooed ‘Al Qaeda plot’ turned out to be a failed effort to blow-up an oil terminal and oil pipeline in Yemen. According to regional observers: “Pipelines are attacked nearly weekly in Yemen”[6] And so an unsuccessful jihadist attack against a pipeline in a marginal part of the poorest Arab state morphed into President Obama’s breathless announcement of a global terrorist threat! An outrageous joke has been played on the President, his Administration and his Congressional followers. But during this great orchestrated ‘joke’, Obama unleashed a dozen drone assassination attacks against human targets of his own choosing, killing dozens of Yemeni citizens, including many innocent bystanders.

 

What is even less jocular is that Obama, the Master of Deceit, just moves on. His proposed “reforms” are aimed to retrench NSA activities; he insists on continuing the “bulk collection” (hundreds of millions) of US citizens’ telephone communications (FT 8/12/13 p2). He retains intact the massive police state spy apparatus, keeps his pro-Israel policymakers in strategic positions, reaffirms his policy of confrontation with Iran and escalates tensions with Russia, China and Venezuela. Obama embraces a new wave of military dictatorships, starting, but not ending, with Egypt.

 

In the face of diminishing support at home and abroad and the declining credibility of his crude “terror” threats, one wonders if the ever-active clandestine apparatus would actually stage its own real-life bloody act of terror, a secret state supported ‘false-flag’ bombing, to convince an increasingly disenchanted and skeptical public? Such would be a desperate act for the State, but these are desperate times facing a failed Administration, pursuing losing wars in which the Masters of Defeat can now only rely on the Masters of Deceit.

 

The Obama regime is infested with the “toxic politics of terrorism” and this addiction has driven him to persecute, torture and imprison truth seekers, whistle blowers and true patriots who strive (and will continue to strive) to awaken the sleeping giant, in hopes that the people of America will arise again.

The Brasscheck Five Point Action Program (Ver 1.0)

 

Real information for real change

 

Much of what Brasscheck reports is dark, but the purpose of our reporting is not to make you despondent. We’re simply covering elements of reality that the corporate/government news media withholds from you.

Before positive productive action can be planned and taken, accurate assessments of conditions have to be made.

Brasscheck is designed to stimulate discussion, encourage future research and inspire positive action.

If you’re seeking an answer to the question “What can I do?” here’s a five point course of action from the simplest actions to the most complex that might stimulate your thinking.

1. Study reality and dismantle propaganda

That’s what Brasscheck TV videos are designed to do. Sometimes they are complete packets of information. Sometimes they are springboards for additional research.

Realize that it’s a process that never ends – because propagandists and professional liars (PR people, “journalists,” paid-for scientists and doctors, government officials etc.) never stop manufacturing new self-serving bullshit.

2. Use what you learn to protect yourself, your family and friends and your community – and to make their lives better

Sometimes it’s immediately obvious what to do in response to information. Sometimes it’s not. Act on what you can act on.

KEY POINT: Support positive alternatives for yourself and others. Create them too.

For example, most people are all but enslaved to the products of a toxic corporate food industry. You can start weaning yourself off that today and it will have many positive effects both in your own life and beyond.

3. Don’t cooperate with evil doers

Ignorance is a form of cooperation.

Giving the authorities “the benefit of the doubt” is a form of cooperation.

Getting swept up in a wave of corporate/government media-generated hysteria on any subject is a form of cooperation.

Doing business with unethical banks and companies is a form of cooperation.

You can help – and help a lot – by simply withdrawing your cooperation and consent.

4. Help victims

Many entirely innocent people have been and continue to be the victims of the corporate/government. You don’t have to look far to find them. If you’re so inclined, you can share your resources with victims directly or find reliable groups that do good work.

Note: Large “non-profits” like the Red Cross are not generally good organizations to give money to.

5. Work to undermine The System

Notice I didn’t say “fight.”

The System loves nothing more than for people to fight it.

Why?

They have exponentially more guns and gun thugs and it won’t be even a remotely fair fight.

So how do you undermine The System?

Review the first four action points and use your own creativity and imagination. Ideas will come to you. It’s a life’s work, not something you figure out in a minute or a day.

Who Are … “We the People”

Since most of  “We the People” in “America” are descendents of the people of nations in other countries – especially those in Europe – many of the customs and organizations of those countries were adopted by the founders and leaders of American society.

Since we began to grow up as children, some customs of those cultures have been instilled in us to believe that truth and justice will triumph eventually – because our Government is “of the people, by the people and for the people” and it “shall not perish from the Earth”.  Each of our erroneous beliefs has failed to permanently rule “we the people”.

The wars of empires eventually failed because their masters’ pride and greed stretched the empires’ powers of domination beyond the trust of the ignorance that holds people in subjugation by fear and violence.  Empires limit the standard of living of their subjugated people, so as to consist only of the goods and services that are necessary to maximize the production of what feudal or slave laborers can accomplish.

Empires are destined to meet failure if their masters assume that their descendents will faithfully continue their dominant power, the threat and use of violence against any change.

 

The cousinship powers of European empires ruled humanity worldwide through the use of gunpowder and the violence that subjugated peoples.  With gunpowder, the arrogant elite of Europe assumed that Europe’s empires were destined with a divine mission to persist in the successful domination of humanity.

Europe’s emperors also used religion to control the peoples of their colonies. The indoctrination of children and adults with the formalized ethics of submission as Christians, was expected to vanquish the aspirations of subjugated Christians to throw off the domination of Europe’s empires. 

Certain Biblical seeds of truth, as stated by Christianity’s Jesus, were deliberately avoided to prevent the people of Europe and Europe’s colonies from understanding the advice of Jesus: “Seek the truth, and you shall find it, and the truth shall set you free.”

Truth instilled a conviction in some colonists to examine the self-evident truths expressed in the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. 

When the American Declaration of Independence was published, the European empires were in their bloom of prosperity and enrichment, due to the vast profit received from their colonies. Through their use of gunboat persuasion as their dominant form of diplomacy, the Empires of Europe extended their collection of colonies to most of the continents of the Earth.  Governments, which had been established during previous ages, were soon forced by gunboats to yield to Europe’s forms of empire.

Europe’s pursuit of multiple empires was kindled by the claim of success by the British aristocracy, which claimed that the sun never sets on the British Empire.  History registered it as true, but as an ultimate criminal indictment.

From that background, America emerged as the United States into the present day in history, when “We the People of the United States”, as well as people in all the former empires of Europe, are facing their economic and social decline as governments that are based on self-determination and as functional nations with legitimate international influence. Based on our ethics, wars accompanied the rise of Europe and America; wars deceived us as a People and as nations, shaping US to serve money as our master. 

Did Christianity’s Jesus teach US and Europe to assume that our wars and schemes of conquest could be forgiven after we achieve victory? 

Do We the People understand the Biblical meaning in Matthew 6: 24 when Jesus said: “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one; and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other.  Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

The apostle Luke quotes Jesus as saying the same thing, in Luke 16:13.

What is mammon?  Wealth, riches, money?  If we love wealth, riches and money, what would we serve and what would we hate and despise?

Who and what did “We the People” serve in the 200 years of US history?  Was it God or mammon?  Who and what do we serve at the present time?

Who and what did the People in the countries of Europe serve in their two thousand years of war?  What can we do to build or destroy the works of creation that feed and improve our lives and those of our descendents?

Why is China prospering while “We the People” – the heirs of Europe – are losing our standard of living?  What provides an appropriate standard of living for all People throughout the world? 

It is self-evident that our standard of living is determined by the cooperation and labor of humans, using resources to provide the means by which people can produce and distribute the goods and services that comprise an appropriate and accessible standard of living for each of US – the People. 

Thievery and wars do not, and can not successfully guide and influence the cooperation of the human efforts that are necessary to accomplish the abundant production of goods and services that each of us, humans, need to pursue our unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and our pursuit of Happiness.

That sounds like the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence.  It was what. Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam discovered when he worked as a laborer in New York during his early years as a young man.   In fact, he was so impressed with the meaning of the words, that he incorporated the words of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence into the Constitution of the Government of North Vietnam.  Why, then, did the US Government choose to destroy the nation of Vietnam when Ho Chi Minh was its leader? 

During America’s 20 years of total war against Vietnam, which killed millions of Vietnamese people and caused the deaths of many thousands of American servicemen and thousands of wounded American servicemen …  Why did we go to War? 

Was the war intended to enable America’s Government to secure the unalienable rights of American people or the unalienable rights of the People of Vietnam?  Did the war and murder in Vietnam accomplish that?

Does the Declaration’s second paragraph say: “That to secure these rights (to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness) Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

“Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety an happiness.”    

Did America have the right to alter or to abolish other Governments? … such as the Government in Vietnam?

Did – We the People of the USA – treat Vietnam as if it should be our colony? Did We the People of the USA use our form of “gunboats” as our form of diplomacy to capture Vietnam as our colony?

Prior to Vietnam, how many People were killed and how many People suffered as slaves, in how many countries of the world, due to the brutal rulers of Europe’s colonial empires?  … and in the colonies of the USA, such as Cuba, the five southern US states that were formerly part of Mexico, the Philippines, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, in South and central America, the Pacific trust territories and South Korea? 

All of which brings US … We the People … born of revolution … to consider and compare the dramatic success of China today … also born of revolution … by We the People.

In the world. It has facilities in 26 U.S. States and it employs tens of thousands of Americans. It directly owns

460 farms and has contracts with approximately 2,100 others. But now a Chinese company has bought it for

$ 4.7 billion, and that means that the Chinese will now be the most important employer in dozens of rural

Communities all over America.


Thanks in part to our massively bloated trade deficit with China, the Chinese have trillions of dollars to spend.

They are only just starting to exercise their economic muscle.

It is important to keep in mind that there is often not much of a difference between “the Chinese government”

And “Chinese corporations”. In 2011, 43 percent of all profits in China were produced by companies where the

Chinese government had a controlling interest in.


Last year a Chinese company spent $2.6 billion to purchase AMC entertainment – one of the largest movie theater

Chains in the United States. Now that Chinese company controls more movie ticket sales than anyone else in the world.


But China is not just relying on acquisitions to expand its economic power. “Economic beachheads” are being

The United States.

China seems particularly interested in acquiring energy resources in the United States. For example, China is actually

To acquire Triple H Coal Co. In Jacksboro, Tennessee. At the time, that acquisition really didn’t make much news, but now

And pretty soon China may want to build entire cities in the United States just like they have been doing in other countries.

Right now China is actually building a city larger than Manhattan just outside Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

Are you starting to get the picture? China is on the rise. If you doubt this, just read the following:

# China has more foreign currency reserves than anyone else on the planet.

U.S. taxpayers, GM is involved in 11 joint ventures with Chinese companies.

# China is the number one gold producer in the world.

# The uniforms for the U.S. Olympic team were made in China.

# 85% of all artificial Christmas trees the world over are made in China.

# The new World Trade Center tower in New York is going to include glass imported from China.

# China now consumes more energy than the United States does.

# China is now in aggregate the leading manufacturer of goods in the entire world.

Former Air Force Analyst: Drone Pilots Can’t Tell The Difference Between A Shovel And A Weapon

When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. And when you’re piloting a lethal drone, everyone looks like a dangerous militant. That is, according to a former employee of the U.S. drone program.

 

In a commentary published in Sunday’s The Guardian, former U.S. Air Force imagery analyst Heather Linebaugh offers a firs-hand account of the moments of uncertainty drone pilots face as they decide whether the people on their computer screens will live or die.

 

Drone operators and analysts routinely make life or death decisions while sitting thousands of miles away from targets that they cannot always clearly identify even under the best operating conditions, according to Linebaugh. The former drone analyst contends, despite the claims of politicians and military officials, that civilian casualty rates from drone strikes are high because the pilots are often unable to get a clear picture of the targets they kill.

 

She writes: “What the public needs to understand is that the video provided by a drone is not usually clear enough to detect someone carrying a weapon, even on a crystal-clear day with limited cloud and perfect light. This makes it incredibly difficult for the best analysts to identify if someone has weapons for sure. One example comes to mind: ‘The feed is so pixelated, what if it’s a shovel, and not a weapon?’ I felt this confusion constantly, as did my fellow UAV analysts. We always wonder if we killed the right people, if we endangered the wrong people, if we destroyed an innocent civilian’s life all because of a bad image or angle.”

 

Linebaugh says that the underreported shortcomings of drones have disastrous consequences not only for the civilians killed in strikes but also for the people operating the drones.

 

“UAV troops are victim to not only the haunting memories of this work that they carry with them, but also the guilt of always being a little unsure of how accurate their confirmations of weapons or identification of hostile individuals were,” she writes.  

 

“Of course, we are trained to not experience these feelings, and we fight it, and become bitter. Some troops seek help in mental health clinics provided by the military, but we are limited on who we can talk to and where, because of the secrecy of our missions,” Linebaugh continues. “I find it interesting that the suicide statistics in this career field aren’t reported, nor are the data on how many troops working in UAV positions are heavily medicated for depression, sleep disorders and anxiety.”

 

A report released in October by Human Rights Watch titled “Between a Drone and Al-Qaeda: The Civilian Cost of US Targeted Killings in Yemen” examined six U.S. drone strikes in Yemen, one from 2009 and the rest from 2012-2013. The report found that two of the drone strikes killed civilians indiscriminately in clear violation of the laws of war. The other strikes, according to the report, targeted people who were not legitimate military targets and caused avoidable civilian deaths. The Human Rights Watch report also provided grisly details and firsthand accounts of botched U.S. drone operations in the region in which it says at least 57 of the 82 people killed were civilians. One 2009 attack noted in the report claimed the lives of 41 civilians.
